About Us

Matthew Leonard, the heart and soul of Bayou Borealis Acres, is a Louisiana native with a deep-rooted passion for ranch life. Born and raised on a small ranch in Elton, Louisiana, Matthew’s love for animals and the land was instilled in him from a young age. After graduating high school in 2019, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Army. Stationed at Fort Wainwright, Alaska, Matthew served as a Field Artillery crewmember, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant over six years before medically retiring. Despite the fulfillment he found in military service, his heart yearned for the ranch life he grew up loving. Upon retiring, Matthew returned to his roots and founded Bayou Borealis Acres, a ranch dedicated to raising sheep with care, respect, and love. Today, Bayou Borealis Acres stands as a testament to Matthew’s commitment to his values. As a veteran-owned, God-based ranch, Matthew is dedicated to raising registered and commercial sheep with integrity and faith, honoring both the land and the animals, and carrying forward the values that have guided him from Louisiana to Alaska and back home again.

“…Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them-not because you must, but because you are willing…..”

1 Peter 5:2
